In August of 2003, Casen Lynn Collins, 2 1/2 was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Her Great Aunt, Tresa VanWinkle, RN/ CAPPED Director, made Casen a couple of therapy dolls to help her process all the needle sticks and discomfort she was experiencing. To everyone's amazement, Casen understood at such a tender age and played out her anxiety with the dolls often.
CAPPED Volunteers have created more of the Casen Therapy Dolls to be distributed to children in Otero County undergoing diagnostic tests and treatments requiring needle sticks.
For information on receiving a FREE Casen Therapy Doll for your ill child, please phone Tresa VanWinkle, RN / Director CAPPED at (505) 434-HOPE (4673).
Casen helps by setting new Casen Therapy Dolls on steps at Grandma's before packing.
